No chemical nasties

Mother Nature is abundant with natural ingredients that mean at alva we can focus on formulating skin-friendly organic cosmetics that help to improve the healthy functioning and appearance of our bodies’ biggest organ.

Here’s a list that explains the key symbols we use at alva which helps our customers to quickly see not only what is in our cosmetics, but what isn’t in our products too.

Bonding FREE means no nasty PEG’s and other synthetic fixatives.

Colourant FREE means no artificial colours to enhance the appearance of natural products; with the abundance of brilliant colours thanks to Mother Nature, why bother?

Fragrance FREE means no synthetic fragrances.

Mineral Oil FREE means no petrochemicals in any form – no liquid paraffin, no petroleum jelly, and no petrolatum. With so many skin friendly natural moisturisers there’s no room for petroleum by-products. All of our oils are from seeds.

NO alcohol means no harsh dehydrating alcohols are used as a preservative; the only alcohols found in alva products are the fatty acid esters which act to moisturise and hydrate the skin, not rob it of moisture.

NOT Tested on Animals; alva is on the positive list of cosmetics as approved by PETA. We also avoid using ingredients where any animals may have been harmed or killed – that means no carmine and no silk.

Paraben FREE means no harsh, potentially carcinogenic preservatives that are in widespread use in the big commercial brands.

Paraffin FREE means no paraffin – many commercial oil-based products used everyday in households across the World contain liquid paraffin.

Preservative FREE means no harsh chemical-based preservatives.

SLS FREE means to potentially harmful foaming agents in our shower gels and shampoos.
